About Us

Our Story

Founded in 1973 as The Adirondack Track Club to promote running on both a recreational and competitive basis, the name changed to The Adirondack Runners in 1983. The club’s membership includes nearly 300 members from all over the Adirondack region. The Adirondack Runners publishes the Rundown, a monthly newsletter distributed to members. The club sponsors six premier races during the year in the greater Glens Falls area. In addition, the club is the organizer of a weekly trail running series and May and the popular Weekly Track Series during the summer. Monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month.

Our Scholarship Program will open mid-February, and we invite High School seniors from designated school districts in Warren, Washington, Hamilton, Essex and Saratoga Counties, or high school seniors who are TAR members in good standing to apply. For more information, including the complete application packet, click here. In awarding scholarships, The Adirondack Runners Club seeks not only to promote running as a healthy lifestyle choice among our local youth, but also to identify and recognize individuals who embody the spirit of running.

Scholarship Program

Each year the Adirondack Runners Club provides scholarships to area students based on selection criteria that includes; academic achievement, school and community service, running achievements and a written essay on the topic, “Running and me: My Journey.” We only consider students who attend the following schools**(with an exception described below): Argyle, Cambridge, Corinth, Fort Ann, Fort Edward, Galway, Glens Falls, Granville, Greenwich, Hadley Luzerne, Hartford, Hudson Falls, Indian Lake, Johnsburg, Lake George, Minerva, Newcomb, North Warren, Queensbury, Salem, Schuylerville, South Glens Falls, Ticonderoga, Warrensburg & Whitehall. While extra consideration is given to those students who are current members of the Adirondack Runners Club, the scholarship program is open to any student who believes they meet the criteria. This year a total of $3,000 will be made available for scholarships. Scholarships will vary in sums up to $1,000 and at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee of the Club.

In awarding scholarships, THE ADIRONDACK RUNNERS seeks not only to promote running as a healthy lifestyle choice among our local youth but also to identify and recognize individuals who embody the spirit of running. Although length of running experience and level of achievement will be factors considered by the Scholarship Committee, substantial weight will also be given to the degree to which the applicant manifests the pleasure, benefits and unbridled joy of running.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community service is a core part of the mission of Adirondack Runners. Through volunteer-led events, charitable programs, and hands-on service projects, the club is committed to making a meaningful impact throughout the greater Glens Falls and Adirondack region.

Each year, The Adirondack Runners donate nearly $20,000 into the local community, funded entirely through club races and programs. These contributions support youth athletics, scholarships, nonprofit organizations, and community initiatives.

Club members actively volunteer their time throughout the year, reinforcing Adirondack Runners’ belief that service extends beyond race day.

E. John Loucks Sneaker Program

The E. John Loucks Sneaker Program is a long-standing community initiative of Adirondack Runners, established to ensure that local student-athletes with an interest in running have access to proper running shoes—removing financial barriers to participation.

Each year, Adirondack Runners works exclusively through head cross country and track coaches from 25 approved and designated local high schools, the same schools served by the club’s Scholarship Program. Coaches identify students with demonstrated need and submit requests on their behalf.
Parents and student-athletes do not apply directly.

This coach-driven process ensures that assistance is provided thoughtfully, fairly, and where it will have the greatest impact.

Since its inception in approximately 1996, the E. John Loucks Sneaker Program has helped provide running shoes to many local youth runners throughout the greater Glens Falls and Adirondack region—supporting not only athletic participation, but confidence, inclusion, and long-term healthy lifestyles.
